About EC24

The Emergency Care Association of South Africa was established by a group of independent emergency care service providers who share a commitment to clinical excellence and patient safety.

The Association is an unincorporated, non-profit collaborative body. It does not provide healthcare services itself, employ clinicians, or make decisions on behalf of its Members. Each Member practice remains fully and independently responsible for its own patients, staff, and operations.

Our Purpose EC24 exists to promote the quality, safety, consistency, and development of emergency healthcare services across South Africa, through collaboration in areas such as:

  • Clinical quality improvement

  • Non-binding clinical protocols and operating recommendations

  • Triage standards and clinical pathways

  • Staffing competencies and resuscitation standards

  • Continuing professional development and training

  • Research, benchmarking, and evidence-based practice

  • Emergency preparedness and innovation

  • Advocacy for appropriate healthcare standards

Leadership EC24 is governed collectively by its Members, led by an elected President and Vice-President who represent the Association and chair its activities.

WHAT WE DO

COLLABORATION IN ACTION

EC24 Members work together on shared clinical and quality initiatives, including:

  • Clinical Protocols — developing non-binding, evidence-based guidelines that Member practices may choose to adopt

  • Adverse-Event Learning — supporting Members in reviewing clinical events for shared learning, using only de-identified information

  • Training & Development — continuing professional development opportunities for emergency care clinicians

  • Research & Benchmarking — using de-identified, aggregated data to support quality improvement across the sector

  • Emergency Preparedness — collaborative planning for emergency and disaster readiness

Note: each Member decides independently whether and how to apply any protocol or recommendation — EC24 does not mandate clinical practice.
